Shining a light on the subject

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is amending the Federal motor vehicle safety standard (FMVSS) on lamps, reflective devices, and associated equipment to restore the blue and green color boundaries that were removed when the agency published a final rule reorganizing that standard on December 4, 2007, effective December 4, 2012.

Petitions for reconsideration of this final rule must be received not later than January 18, 2013. Submit comments to Administrator, National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, 1200 New Jersey Avenue SE, West Building, Ground Floor, Docket Room W12-140, Washington, DC 20590 and refer to Docket No. NHTSA-2012-0171.

Also, NHTSA is proposing to restore the side marker lamp requirements, for vehicles that are over 80 inches wide, and also less than 30 feet in overall length, to the Federal motor vehicle safety standard (FMVSS) on lamps, reflective devices and associated equipment. These requirements were modified when the agency published a final rule reorganizing the standard on December 4, 2007. Comments to this proposal must be received on or before January 3, 2013. To comment visit http://www.regulations.gov and refer to Docket No. NHTSA-2012-0174.
