Encore!

We’re honored that the Devine News has requested to reprint the blog we posted yesterday to EagleFordShale.com about how to get a commercial driver’s license. We hope this will help lots of potential new drivers to get a CDL and a great job in the oilfield.

Driving jobs in the oilfield

We’re now official guest contributors to the blog at EagleFordShale.com. Check out our first post http://www.eaglefordshale.com/blog/get-a-cdl-in-10-easy-steps-start-a-career-in-the-eagle-ford-oilfield/ and all the resources at this site.

The driver shortage strikes again!

Check out this story from the Web site of the Altoona Mirror regarding the need for drivers with commercial driver’s licenses.  If you’d like to get a jump start preparing to take your CDL tests, we suggest that you look into our iPhone app, BUMPER TO BUMPER® Easy CDL.

Reminder: hang onto that paper

Here’s a reminder: the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration will require until January 30, 2014 that interstate drivers subject to the commercial driver’s license (CDL) regulations and the Federal physical qualification requirements must retain paper copies of their medical examiner’s certificate. Interstate motor carriers are also required to retain copies of their drivers’ medical certificates in their driver qualification files. So if you go to renew, upgrade, transfer or otherwise change your license, after Jan. 30 you will have to provide proof of medical certification. Your state can decide if the medical examiner’s “long form” or the actual medical certificate will be required, so check with your state commercial driver licensing agency to see what you’ll need to bring.

Lots learned at NAPFTDS Regional conference

The National Association of Publicly Funded Truck Driving Schools Regional Conference, held Nov. 10th and 11th at Del Mar College in Corpus Christi, Texas, was well worth attending. All the presenters brought valuable information to share, from advice on contract training and industry partnerships to regulatory and funding issues for truck driver training, to commercial vehicle crime prevention. For example, check out American Association of Motor Vehicles’ Kevin Lewis’s  presentation on DOT testing regulations DOT Testing Regulations and Compliance Safety Systems’ David Saunders’s presentation on CSA. For more information about NAPFTDS, visit the Web site at www.napftds.org.

Hang onto that paper — a little longer

The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration amends its regulations to keep in effect until January 30, 2014, the requirement that interstate drivers subject to the commercial driver’s license (CDL) regulations and the Federal physical qualification requirements must retain paper copies of their medical examiner’s certificate. Interstate motor carriers are also required to retain copies of their drivers’ medical certificates in their driver qualification files. This action is being taken to ensure the medical qualification of CDL holders until all States are able to post the medical self-certification and medical examiner’s certificate data on the Commercial Driver’s License Information System (CDLIS) driver record. This rule does not, however, extend the compliance dates for States to collect and to post to the CDLIS driver record data from a CDL holder’s medical self-certification and medical examiner’s certificate.  This rule is effective December 15, 2011.
