Lots learned at NAPFTDS Regional conference
The National Association of Publicly Funded Truck Driving Schools Regional Conference, held Nov. 10th and 11th at Del Mar College in Corpus Christi, Texas, was well worth attending. All the presenters brought valuable information to share, from advice on contract training and industry partnerships to regulatory and funding issues for truck driver training, to commercial vehicle crime prevention. For example, check out American Association of Motor Vehicles’ Kevin Lewis’s presentation on DOT testing regulations DOT Testing Regulations and Compliance Safety Systems’ David Saunders’s presentation on CSA. Scammer update
Tammy Curtis of United Truck Driving School tells us that the scammer who had been using the name “Robert Phillips” and the phone number of is 214-202-9991 is running the same scam, asking for past grads’ phone numbers. Using the name “James Green” but the same phone number, he stated that he would take students also. He was offering $450 per week for 4 weeks of training then it went to $.32 per mile.
Beware of scammers with too-good-to-be-true offers.

Publication of this newly updated CDL test-preparation guide is slated for next month, March 2010. Both professional and prospective tractor-trailer drivers can use this manual to prepare for the tests that they must pass to get a CDL. Comprehensive coverage of both the written and driving tests includes lots of practice tests (with answers, of course) for the general knowledge, air brakes and endorsement tests. The book is generously illustrated with detailed diagrams and drawings that demonstrate the proper procedures drivers must master to pass the inspection and skills tests.
